I had a good birthday...
Actually, I had a good weekend. :D No homework was done and good times were had with friends. On Saturday, our friends Julie and Alan picked us up and took us to Royal Bavaria (a German restaurant) for my birthday. More friends - Allison, Kristen, Jeff and Matt - were waiting and beer was had by all (except the pregnant-lady)! The food was great and the company better. I was given an Appletini shot for my birthday. Yum! Unfortunately, the restaurant closes at 9:30, so we moved on to restaurant/lounge near campus known as Blu. We arrived just in time for happy hour! Woo hoo! I finally got my Guinness there. :P

Julie kidnapped me to get a manicure and pedicure on Sunday, my actual birthday. I took a picture of my toes that I'll have to post later - I'm actually in class (the one I teach), but they're watching a video. "The Universe - Secrets of the Sun"... not sure why it's a secret. o.O IT's one of those videos that I've been forbidden to watch by my dear hubby because I get frustrated when I watch them. Back on the subject, we were able to visit with the 'rents by webcam for my birthday, as well. They'll be here in 2 weeks! I'm very much looking forward to having visitors (and no, Mom, I'm not just saying that)!

Oooh, random fact - in 1988 a sun quake occurred that contained ripples that were 2 miles high and would have registered an 11.3 on the Richter scale. That's actually kind of cool. They actually recoreded the footage - it looked like a ripple on a lake. Heh.

OK, enough from me for now - I should probably pay attention to my students. :P

Glad you had a happy birthday! What are you now, 22? WOO!

Hah. I love those titles. "Badgers! The Secret Lives of Mushrooms!" You know you're in store for a great time with titles like that.

Seriously, though, I've seen that quake ripple you're talking about. It's pretty intense when you realize the scale of it. Otherwise it looks like someone tossed a pebble into a calm pond. Is the show you're referring to the one they're playing on Discovery? I watched a few episodes and got bored, which is typical when you're educated on a subject and the information is targeted to an uneducated (on the subject matter) audience.

Oh well, back to work.

22 - you're funny. :P

The movies my students are watching are from the "Universe" series on Discovery - I know the sun one was from season 1. I'm not allowed to watch those at home because I yell at the TV. Actually, I'm not allowed to watch a lot of the science shows on Science channel or Discovery because of that reason. :D

I'm no dummy. There's really no reason for a specialist to watch a show aimed at a general audience. Yelling will ensue at the oversimplification.

That's why I don't watch all of those popular shows about philosophy and writing.

Wait . . .
