Just finishing up a late lunch. Much more productive today than yesterday due to more than 3.5 hours of sleep.

I stepped on the scale this morning to learn that I lost 2.5 pounds over the past few days.

There is no way in hell I deserve losing that much weight over the weekend, as my biggest trip expense save travel was beer.

During the parade of robot fags this weekend, I found myself thinking that the following would make a great shirt. My brother suggested the kawaii eyes.

It's too late for the weekend, but hell, there's always CONvergence.

nrggghh. Home, exhausted, cranky at being here and not in Atlanta, and wishing I could stay home and crawl back under my blanket this morning.

The ceremony was sweet. Robots were mentioned. [info]gigerlicious actually used my advice-for-a-happy-relationship during the ceremony (never put salt in your eyes) that I gave him while at the bar. I was having such a good time that rather than ride the Marta to the airport, I oped to stay for most of the reception by paying out the nose for a cab instead.

[info]hooper_x and [info]glory80 make the perfect couple.

I had a grand time, even if it was too short by half.

Danger wedding folks, if you're reading this, lemme know who you are so I can put handles to faces and names.

So I hadn't planned on doing the Danskin Tri. I did it 3 years ago and absolutely hated Bonelli Park. The water was fine and the run was fine. . .it was the bike ride that scared the ever living crap out of me in part because of a nasty downhill and in part because of a section maneuvering traffic, both of which you had to do twice.

But. . . I just got news today regarding a family member that made me check the Tri site again. In one month they'll be holding the race in Disneyland. And next Sunday I'll be doing Playa Del Run in Santa Monica with a 1k swim and a 5k run. Meaning all I have left is the bike and honestly that's just the mental issue.

So. . signing up to do the tri. And am going to have to tell my advisor that I'm going to get into MSP a day later than I had thought for a visit because I'm doing the race (he does marathons, so he'll understand). It'll be too late for the fundraising that is being done at the race to help a family member, but it'll hopefully help someone in the future.

Hoop's reputation as an e-badass is further eroded by the following facts:

1. A musack version of Dreamweaver played at their reception.

2. Their first dance as man and wife was to a Dixie Chicks song.

Tonight I had yet another wacky transportation misadventure which resulted in me being two hours late (but thankfully no male pelvic thrusts were involved this time).

After I got to the pub, I spent the entire time drinking very tasty stout and talking with an endless parade of robot fags. Win win.

Last night wacky misadventures ensued. I was dropped off at the place where the bachelorette party was supposed to be, but due to last minute changes and non-functioning cell phones, that's how I came to be stranded in a strange city drinking by myself and watching bored-looking male strippers thrust their pelvises at me for over two hours.

The party bus eventually rescued me, where I discovered [info]hooper_x passed out in the parking lot of a titty bar in a stolen bathrobe.

On today's agenda: wacky hijinks.

They confiscated my moisturizer at airport security.

DON'T THEY REALIZE IF YOU HAVE DRY SKIN, THE TERRORISTS HAVE ALREADY WON??

Because I'll be missing the bachelorette pre-drinking at the hotel, I believe I shall have a beer on the plane to help ensure drunkiness equity for all.

All packed and ready to go to danger wedding! I leave right after work. Straight from work, actually.

I've never spent any time in Atlanta before and travel, even for the weekend, is always exciting to me. I was watching a housebuying show with my parents last night and it was featured in Atlanta and I was all HAY THAT'S WHERE I'LL BE TOMORROW.

In other news, I went to pack a dress for the wedding and discovered to my horror that I'm too fat for all of them. All of them. And not like, a little pudgy fat and I can make it work, but enough that I felt horrified and was shamed into going to Target to buy a new dress at the last minute rather than to try and squeeze my carcass into a sausage casing.

I spent the rest of the evening being depressed about my body. Good thing I'm already losing a bit of winter weight, but still. Suddenly realizing that you've gained 25-30 pounds when you weren't looking (especially when you never bought new pants) is really craptastic.

Stupid cigarette quitting. Stupid Minnesota winters. Stupid Fez-like love of candy.

I am posting this from my blackberry just because I can.

Tell me. What was the last thing you did just because you could?

Sleep deprived. . . .

  • May. 8th, 2008 at 1:20 AM
as I'm up here at the telescope observing.

So M and I had a romantic honeymoon night here in Tucson at the Marriott the night before my run as he was here for a committee meeting. Aren't astronomers just the most romantic beings?

So I've loaded a few (and only a few) pics from the wedding onto my flickr stream. I forgot to grab the CDs with the photos from the disposable cameras at the reception.

But today's post. . . .today's post has to due with the TSA. Now all of us have had to deal with them. We know the drill- shoes off, laptop out, liquids out, empty pockets, blah blah blah. But after Monday I have to question who the heck is training these people. First we started off by going upstairs in LAX terminal 7 because the line on the departures floor was so long, I knew I couldn't stand it. Didn't know there was an upstairs? Well there is, accessible by the parking garage. Okay. . .so first we get yelled at about 15 minutes to line up on the right hand side of the barrier as if we should known to do that without signage or any TSA people actually deigning to go "outside". Right. . .so eventually the line moves so I'm inside the building. People come up with flights leaving soon and get run through. One guy comes up with a printout off the internet. Somehow he has the wrong one (ie not the one with the barcode) and TSA woman yells at him. Then when he goes downstairs to deal with the agents (who he'll never see by the time his flight departs) the woman starts going on about "f*ing a*hole" about the dude. Dear TSA- please teach your employees about proper language in public. Okay so I get through line and shoes are off, laptop is out, liquids including shampoo, toothpaste and sauce for my veggie sushi snack are also in their baggie going down the belt. I get through the detector and hear "Who's the a*hole who left a full sized DVD player in their luggage?". Guess whose luggage that was? But I didn't have a full sized DVD player. I offered that it might be my external harddrives (because on night 2 here I've already got about 20 gig of data so DVD burning won't work well) and continue to hear cursing. Another TSA agent starts unpacking my bag and running it through the x-ray machine until the x-ray person is happy. The item causing confusion was my laptop power adapter. I have a Macbook. . .so it's not like they've never seen an Apple power brick in someone's luggage and it's also nowhere near the size of a full sized DVD player. After this incident I have decided that the TSA needs to train their folks better. I'd also recommend teaching the ones in LAX that ebonics is not a universally understood dialect.

I used to think it was annoying in Tucson in college when my backpack always got swabbed as I was at the airport. But now I'm certain that the airport security is staffed by morons. Somehow I don't really feel like the nation's air travel system is safer with these people in positions of pseudo-authority.

This morning I have the trifecta. Allergies, cramps to kill an elephant,
and now, a migraine. I knew I was about due, but I can tell this one is
going to be a rough ride. Can't see the characters on my screen, so hooray
for touch typing.

Happy birthday, Minty. I'm so sorry, Kimono. LOL! Those fabulous socks were knitted by the talented Tic-Tac-Toe. Thanks, TTT!

Big news! KT is now searchable! I've added a search box to the comic page, as well as the archive and site map pages, so now you can easily find all your favorite pages. Just type in a word or phrase, like "wasabi" or "Brightly," and you'll be taken to a list of all KT episodes dealing with that subject. Hooray! I've also added the search function to the sidebar of this blog. Many, many thanks go out to everyone who helped with the transcription process. This was possible because of your generosity!

Dear Lazyweb:

I have this idea in my head that I could set up my MP3 server, which is
directly attached to my stereo receiver, to transmit via FM so my other
radios in the house could pick up the signal, making it a cheap way to have
the same music playing throughout the house, without lag.

Is this feasible or am I on crack? If I am not on said crack, can anyone on
the lazyweb provide me with a helpful link on what I should be looking at
purchasing to make this happen?

Projects

  • May. 6th, 2008 at 8:10 AM
My goal over the next few weeks is to do a bunch of fest sewing projects
left over from last year. I have fabric for about 5 skirts that I never got
around to making, and I want to alter my existing ones to accommodate
suspenders. Then I want to sew a new bodice or four....I have the material,
so I might as well.

And I went through a bunch of papers and filed last night, and came across
various Vilfiication scribbles from last season. I need to compile all
those into my book so I don't lose them. And I've written about 15-20 new
insults over the last few weeks that I have yet to memorize/weed
out/permanently add, so that'll take some time.

That should take me through till almost CONvergence time, with a whole new
set of projects.

Tell me. What's the last project you completed that you were really proud
of?

Offensive Knitting

It sounds like just about everyone is busy for tonight, and I'm in a rotten
mood and have to admit the lure of hermiting with my exercise bike and
Persona 3 is strong. Haven't heard from [info]briangee yet.

So now the question is, to knit or not to knit tonight? There will be no
knitting next week because of Goth Prom, and none on the 26th (Memorial
Day). Not sure how much that influences people's choices. It kinda makes
me want to keep it going tonight, but again, I'm in a rotten, hermiting
mood.

But either way, if you crazy regular knitters could let me know that'd be
fantasitc.

EDIT: No knitting tonight due to miscellaneous stuff on what sounds like everyone's part. The next Offensive Knitting night will be Monday, May 19th.
